Rev. William Nehemiah Lono was born in Kau, Hawaii. He and his wife Julia were sent to the Gilbert Islands in 1871 where they served for twenty-two years. In 1900, Rev. Lono was called to Kaumakapili Church. For 11 years, Kaumakapili held its services in the chapel at Austin Lane until the third church was built in 1910.
